The project “Sofia – smart and innovative city” will explore, present and promote the potential of the city and its citizens to adapt innovative ideas and approaches, applicable practices and proven models for building an intelligent and modern look of Bulgaria’s capital city. Featuring a forum coherent with the initiative, “Sofia – smart and innovative city” project will showcase the guidelines to a sustainable model for smart cities in terms of economics, urban mobility and the environment by fostering interaction between citizens, experts, institutional authority, the government and the business in order to make steps towards the development of a sustainable, intelligent urban environment.

The specific needs and problems of the city will be examined through the prism of three main aspects the smart economy, smart mobility and smart environment. Each of these aspects is a priority for the city and is integrated as an action topic in various programs and projects: terms of economics, urban mobility and the environment by fostering interaction between citizens, experts, institutional authority, the government and the business in order to make steps towards the development of a sustainable, intelligent urban environment.

● Smart economy – support to the innovative companies and investment activities to foster increase in economy competitiveness, new jobs and viable entrepreneurship.

● Smart mobility – improvement in transport connections and transport infrastructure, construction of bike lanes, launch of innovative projects for city mobility, shared travelling, etc.

● Smart environment among the environmental priorities for Sofia are reducing waste, increasing the amount of recycled and recovered waste, improved organization and efficiency of separate waste collection, etc.

The event will put the focus on best practices and citizens involvement in the development of a vision for sustainable urban environment through sharing innovative ideas, discussions and result oriented approaches.

Special attention will be paid to the “Central Station Lions Bridge” city area in particular for its potential to be the place where future innovative and sustainable urban development projects will be implemented.
